The Travel Type Personalities You Can’t Escape

Written by Kaelie Piscitello

All kinds of people travel for different reasons, and they all bring their personalities, for better or for worse, on vacation with them. Most want to relax and ignore their everyday life by indulging in lots of food, lying on the beach, and drinking cocktails.

Others travel on business and can’t seem to snap away from their computers. No matter the reason for travel, everyone always meets some interesting characters who will provide a fun story to share at home.

The Partier

Everyone on vacation knows or has become the partier of a trip. The party crowd comes to go out and have a good time every single day of the trip. They lead the dance breaks, frequent the poolside bar, and wake up mid-day.

While the partier might not have much time to see the sights, they make the evenings of every vacation fun. They often partake in some silly activities, giving everyone, including themselves, a wonderful souvenir of a story to take home.

The Newly Weds

Every vacation resort hosts several pairs of honeymooners that everyone will likely encounter during a trip. They stay in the luxurious honeymoon sweet, drink large bottles of champagne, and take long, quiet strolls along the beach every time sunset arrives.

Their dewy-eyed optimism for the future may annoy some older individuals, especially those who have recently gone through a divorce. However, they tend to have some of the most popular outlooks of tourists wandering around a place.

They often participate in games, offer to take photos for other travelers (in exchange for a picture of themselves, of course) and wear festive outfits showing their new relationship status.

The Retirees

Similar to the newlyweds, the retirees also have jetted off on a new adventure together and have optimistic outlooks about the outcome of their trip. They tend to turn up on cruises and in all-inclusive resorts but love a good excursion together!

Many of these people have passed the prime of their life but look to relive their glory days and will return to some of their favorite places they visited in their youth. Those who didn’t travel much as young men and women will start checking places off their bucket lists to ensure they do everything they want to before time runs out.

The Overplanner

The overplanner usually. becomes the trip organizer, and everyone appreciates their attention to detail. The overplanner can serve as a valuable resource for individuals who prefer not to spend a lot of time preparing. The rest of the group can take a backseat and listen to what the overplanner has decided to do.

However, then the trip sets in. Sometimes other people realize that the planner might have omitted some of the activities they wanted to do from the list or that the overplanner has prepared a strict schedule.

This does not happen in all cases, but the overplanner can serve as both a blessing and a curse, depending on the travel styles of others.

The Checklist Follower

This person prepares a list of all the sites they want to visit and intends to make it to every single one of them. Similar to the overplanner, they often bring a schedule that dictates which attractions are open and at what time.

The checklist follower will spend short amounts of time at every attraction. They typically see something, take a picture, realize they don’t have much else to do there, then move onto the next thing.

The Working Guy

People often encounter two kinds of working individuals while on trips. The first involves a parent or guardian whose work computer turned up, much to the dismay of their co-travelers. They often sneak away to take long phone calls and miss out on fun activities because of work.

The newer, more mainstream working guy involves a social media influencer equipped with a camera, a computer, good lighting, and all the trimmings. They want their vacation to appear perfect to everyone online and spend most of their hours taking posed selfies.

The Gap Years/Study Abroad Students

These youngsters are here for a good time but not an expensive one. They rule the hostels, overnight buses, and other travel budget options. They tend to form cohorts together and will scurry between several cities within a few days.

Often, gap year travelers enjoy visiting places together and love to ask other travelers for advice on the best places to go next. They usually celebrate their youth and tend to fall into the party category. They make the most of their trip and see everything they want to.
